What does it mean to be disruptive in the lighting industry?
Come to Disruptia at the Matedero on April 3rd and find out.
The Light Collective event Disruptia is back for the third time. After successful events in Mexico City in 2023 and London 2024, Disruptia will be coming to Madrid.
Disruption can be defined as radical change to an existing industry or market due to technological innovation. In Spanish, the word for disruption is “ruptura” (see what we did there?) and this event is one that goes way beyond lighting.
Disruption is coming. It is inevitable. The world is going through a renaissance and new technology powered tools are changing the way we work in the lighting industry, the way we create and the way we interact with the world.
How can the professional lighting community embrace this new era and use it to elevate the role of light and lighting design? This is a question we want we explore at the event. Disruptia is a future focussed festival of disruption – join us to find out about what could happen next and how we could shape it.
Light Collective air a UK based creative consultancy with experience in creating memorable and game changing events in the lighting industry and expert in bringing together communities around light.
We have been flattered to be called ‘Disrupters’ ourselves a few times in the past and whilst we wouldn’t use it to describe ourselves, hope that it means those people thought we were innovators and the intention is that this event follows the same track.
Light Collective has recently expanded and opened a new LATAM branch with former collaborator Magali Mendez. Light Collective and Magali have previously worked on some innovative events in Mexico and Disruptia was the first official Light Collective LATAM venture and it will return to Mexico City in November 2025.
Disruptia is a one day event and features a program that includes keynote inspiration presentations and conversations with key disruptors inside and outside the lighting industry creating opportunities to learn and develop. It beings designers together to discuss ideas, problems, solutions and ambitions. There will obviously also be drinks and networking too. We know that some of the best ideas are created over a drink and a chat and we hope to inspire creativity and connections.
The line up includes inspiring contributors from the worlds of lighting design, product design, visual arts, architecture, neuro-architecture, theatre, material innovation, immersive experiences, artificial intelligence, metaverse and manufacturing. So far the line up includes the following: Ignacio Valero, Tupac Martir, Sophya Acosta, Marta Handenawer, Anne Bureau, Chris Pype Nubi León, Africa Sabe, Rebeca Sánchez Pastor, Macarena Saenz, Juan Luis Fuentes, Jose Luis Revueltas and Tapio Rosenius.
Supporters are formalighting, Ayrton, LEDluks and Anolis. The event is partnered by APDI – the Spanish Lighting Design Association.
