The light installation at Salt Galata offers a distinctive way to experience the building’s architectural elements, using color and shadow to symbolize the cycle of the sun. This play of light and shadow not only highlights the structure’s layers but also draws viewers into the space, making them part of the experience.
Originally designed for the Bank-ı OsmanĆ®-i Åahane (later the Ottoman Bank) by French-born Levantine architect Alexandre Vallauri, the building has seen various structural changes over the years. It served as the Ottoman Bank’s headquarters from 1892 to 1999 before being extensively refurbished and reopened as Salt Galata in November 2011.
