Lighting Planners Associates (LPA)

Lighting Planners Associates (LPA) is a Japan-based architectural lighting design practice founded in Tokyo in 1990 by renowned lighting designer Kaoru Mende. The practice works across architectural, urban, environmental, and landscape lighting, developing lighting concepts for buildings, public spaces, cultural institutions, hospitality, and large-scale urban environments. With studios across Asia, LPA has contributed to major international projects including Tokyo International Forum, JR Kyoto Station, Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Station, Gardens by the Bay, the National Museum of Singapore, and Aman Tokyo. Its approach combines Japanese sensitivity to light and darkness with architectural precision, emphasizing atmosphere, human experience, cultural context, and the relationship between light, architecture, and the nighttime environment.
